I just had my oath-taking as a lawyer yesterday, april 28, 2010. The second to the last step before i can call myself as a full-pledged lawyer. While reciting the lawyers oath for real this time gave me goosebumps! I said to myself that finally I am going to recite it not for recitation or bar exam purposes, but because I AM GOING TO BE A LAWYER NOW. The feeling is indescribable. It's as if this is the moment we have all been waiting for. And finally it happened. Now I can say that, in the presence of my c0-candidates and the parents, and loved ones, and before the Supreme Court Justices, I have taken, with all my heart, the LAWYER'S OATH.
Listening to Justice Nachura's and Chief Justice Puno's speeches made us all feel proud or ourselves. I say to ourselves, because indeed the journey of becoming an attorney is a path that depends mainly on the person alone. Of course with a little help from our friends, loved ones, and relatives, and guidance from the Great Creature on High, this moment would not be so sweet without them.
There are people however that I would like to thank. Those who did even the simplest of things, but inspired me through my bar review:
1. the guards of LPU, kuya elmer, kuya jo, and manong al, who bore with us through those late night studies at the bar crib;
2. The people of starbucks valero who open their doors 24/7 when i needed a place to study. Especially kuya guard who told me that I will pass the bar because the place is lucky. thanks so much!
3. Rejean, my. Gosh she was a big help! From buying my starbucks drink in the morning when i was too lazy to go out of the house to even buying my highlighter at national bookstore.
The others, my friends who took the bar, especially Misch Eli and Ayet, and my study buddies Camilo and Leonard, who had been my exclusive social network during the bar review. That's true, they were the only friends I constantly talk to with. And to my study buddies who will not study without the other at bar crib, thank you for being my kape and vitamins--you kept me going. haha! To Camilo especially for the last min tips, pare you are a blessing!
Last and most of all, to my husband Jeff. For all the sacrificies, for keeping it up with all my tantrums, for being my financier (aside from my mom, of course!) who gave me most, if not all of my cravings, my buying my entire wardrobe for the 4 sundays of the bar exams, my backpack included, and for being the "dakilang alalay." Oo na, inalila ko na sya, but i promised I'll make it up to him.
One more step to go, the signing of the roll of attorneys, then i can finally put that ATTY. before my name. :)
to spoil or not to spoil

Been busy spending time with the family over the weekend. As usual, when mom arrives, we would either be at the mall shopping or eating out. Good thing I learned not to tag along in all the shops she goes to.
Either way, we had a blast. If spending time alone with andre in the room watching Tom and Jerry dvds all day (which we did last Friday and almost every single day in Boracay, and we never get tired of laughing at those repeated episodes!!) is happy time, what more if he tries to make you feel extra special.
This is what happened. Thursday morning, they arrived. I was sleeping in my room when he suddenly shout "MOMMY, I'M HERE NA!" He told me about his trip and how he was soooo happy being in Manila. Then lunch. Rested for an hour or so, then off we go to the mall. Since the yayas where so excited to shop (my mom gave them 500 pesos each for shopping), I let them go on their own. My mom and sister separated, so it's now me and andre alone. We went to some shops first, to look for a dress which I'm going to wear on the 28th. Then Toy Kingdom. Goodness gracious! I wish my wallet was loaded that day. He was sooo spoiled he knew how to choose his toys. And mind you, they were expensive. He wanted to buy a Game Boy! Fortunately, he settled down with a toy soldier robot, some balls, and swimming gears.
Just right before paying, he saw some barbies. Yep, you read it right. He remembers his promise that he'd buy me one. He said that if buy him a toy, he'll also buy one for me. He insisted on buying the one with the doll house, but I said no. I told him that I don't need toys since I'm a big girl now. We went home with no barbie.
Later that night, I realized what if I paid for that barbie? Not only would I make him happier, it would make me happy too. haha! I want that doll for myself now. :) So next time we go toy shopping, I'll promise not to spoil... the moment!

i had another chocolate fire blast yesterday.
while i was feeling the "bum thing" again yesterday (tinatamad na naman akong gumalaw-galaw), atty. camilo, my study buddy from law school suddenly called up. told me he took the day off to get his clearance from SC then we meet up. what started as a short chit-chat (which i thought would end up after an hour or two since i also planned on going shopping afterwards) ended me forgetting that my jeff was waiting for me at the mall at 9pm. haha!
we had of course the usual kamustahans. talk about how things are going on with our lives and other peoples lives. :) (syempre hindi mawawala ang chismis) atty. jun2- the super busy guy, of course lost tooooooo much weight, and i'm envious!! but one thing new is that now we get to give some advice to our friends who are going to take the bar this year. it may not be the best advice or the best formula for a review, but i'm happy we could share our experiences on how we hurdled the greates battle of our law school life-the bar exams!
thinking of the past, feels like it was just yesterday when we were just first year students at san beda law school, when we were sooo "like-a-virgin" in the study of law, (yes, iba talaga feeling ng first year and being in the senior year), i feel proud that at 26, i am now a lawyer, a wife, and a mother. to top it all, i'm happy in all of them. haay, i just smile at everything that has happened.
the big question now-where do i start? where to look for a job, start a career, and be a career woman forever. :)
will i see you in court?!

hello!
welcome to my new and third blogspot since i lost my first two to memory lane.
i bet you're wondering why i named it chocolates and barbies, eh? if you're a close friend then you prolly know the answer. yes! i'm a sucker for chocolates. you name it, chocolate cake, truffles, hot choco (hmmm my son loves this!), iced chocolate drink, choco ice-cream, milk chocolate, and my fave of 'em all, dark chocolate! give me chocolates and i'll love you forever. haha! exagg!
and why barbies? well i just named it after son. to remind myself that there is one cute innocent little person in this world who loves me and would go the "extra mile" to make me smile always. every night, he would "build" (he uses his carpenter tools) me gifts before we sleep and say "happy birthday mommy, i love you!". then one time, he was watching cartoon network and saw the barbie commercial, asked me if barbies are for girls only. i said yes. from then on, he would remind me always that he'd buy barbie for me as a gift. :)
therefore this blog would mostly be about my life as a mom and a career-lawyer-to-be.
let's talk it over coffee... and chocolates!
ciao!
